When the FinnFest USA festival idea was first dreamed up in Minneapolis in 1982, everyone was thinking “summer festival.” And the first festival, held in August, 1983, was indeed a summer festival.Only three times have FinnFests drifted into other times of the year.A November date has never been on the radar. We are discovering, as we plan, that our programming can rightfully engage in some new topics and approaches just because it’s November.

Pine Mountain Music Festival announces artists for Rockland Opera

Pine Mountain Music Festival has announced the key artistic staff who will lead the premiere of the Upper Peninsula opera "Rockland" on July 15 and 17, 2011 at the Rozsa Center in Houghton.

Finnish Folk Music Camp in Michigan

Arto Järvelä, an instructor of traditional fiddle at the prestigious Sibelius Academy of Helsinki, Finland, is traveling to Hancock to instruct classes at the Copper Country’s first-ever Finnish Folk Music Camp, July 12 to 14, at Camp Lahti on Lake Superior’s Rabbit Bay, Lake Linden. The Music Camp is conducted by the Finlandia University Finnish American Heritage Center and the university’s Finnish Council in America.

Angry Birds at San Diego FinnFest Business Forum

FinnFest2011 presents the first-ever Business Forums aimed at providing a platform for engaging discussions and facilitating partnerships between Finnish and U.S. companies, researchers and industry experts. The Business Forums will span two days and focus respectively on the Cleantech(Thursday, August 11, 2011) and the Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) (Friday, August 12, 2011) sectors.

FinnFest 2013: Midsummer Eve’s Dream

A committee of community leaders has been meeting monthly since fall 2010 in Hancock, Michigan, and has begun shaping the outline of the festival, which is planned for June 19-23, 2013 and is billed “ A Midsummer Eve’ s Dream.”
